Non-Surgical TMJ Therapy from Dr. Polansky

You may go your whole day without thinking about your temporomandibular joints (TMJ), the small, triangular-shaped joints that help you open and close your mouth. But the same can’t be said if you happen to suffer from TMJ dysfunction.

Aside from causing jaw clicking and minor discomfort, TMJ dysfunction can also result in sharp pain in your temple, ears, neck, and shoulders. Moreover, TMJ dysfunction and teeth grinding, which can seriously damage tooth structure and pave the way for serious trouble down the road, are known to go hand-in-hand. But, at Dr. Polansky’s Cherry Hill office, TMJ dysfunction and teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) can be treated non-surgically with a custom made oral appliance.

Effective Treatment with an Oral Appliance

Using an impression of your teeth, our lab will construct an oral appliance that fits comfortably over your teeth and holds your jaw in its ideal position. What’s more, by encouraging proper alignment, your custom oral appliance can help reduce stress on aggravated nerves, bringing you relief from painful symptoms and restoring function.

In some cases, treatment with a custom oral appliance may need to be supplemented with another restorative procedure, but this will depend on your own personal needs.
