LANAP Laser Gum Therapy to Treat Periodontitis

Gum disease is a serious threat to your oral health. When plaque is allowed to build up on your teeth, it can harden into tartar and irritate your gums. This can lead to a bacterial infection that can cause pockets to develop in between the teeth and gums, and eventually lead to losing a tooth, bones, or gum tissue.

Severe gum disease is referred to as periodontitis, and should be treated right away to lessen the negative impacts on your smile. At Dr. Barry Polansky’s office, we use LANAP to help treat our patients with periodontitis.

LANAP stands for Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure. Instead of traditional gum surgery, we use the very thin LANAP laser to help remove the infected gum tissue and encourage growth of new, healthy gum tissue. Typically patients need two appointments that are two hours each to remove the infection that caused your periodontitis. The laser is the thickness of three hairs, and you won’t need anesthesia or stitches so the impact to your life is minimal.

Gum disease can be very destructive to your smile if allowed to spread, so early detection and prevention is key. If you do develop periodontitis, we can treat it with LANAP and restore the health of your gums. If you think you might be suffering from gum disease, call us today to schedule an appointment.

Dr. Barry Polansky provides complete dental care to all of our patients from our Cherry Hill dental office. We serve patients from Voorhees, Marlton, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Audubon, and surrounding areas. Call us today to schedule your appointment.
