Comprehensive Examinations

A complete, thorough examination lays the foundation for effective treatment planning. Dr. Polansky authored a book entitled The Art of the Examination, which is the required reading for dentists pursuing postgraduate study at the Dawson Academy and the Pankey Institute for Continuing Dental Education.

During your checkup, Dr. Polansky will evaluate your entire oral health system. Your exam will include:

• A check for dental decay using our non-invasive DIAGNOdent laser
• An evaluation of gum tissue to assess periodontal health and look for signs of gum disease
• An assessment of how your top and bottom teeth fit together (called occlusion)
• An integrity check of existing dental work
• An appraisal of your temporomandibular joints (TMJ) and associated muscles

VELscope Oral Cancer Screening

We’ll also perform an oral cancer screening. Oral cancer is an aggressive disease that claims the life of one American every hour. Dr. Polansky uses the non-invasive VELscope system. VELscope uses a special light to identify oral lesions that require follow-up. The screening takes just a couple of minutes and could save your life. Caught in the early stage, oral cancer has a dramatically improved cure rate.
